Portrait of a girl with a white shirt

I reinforced and softened the sun light coming through the window on the left and created more contrast with development. It was taken on Tmaxx 400.

Autumn at Le Vieux Port in Montreal

This pic was taken with an iphone a couple of weeks ago in Montreal, while I was walking along the Vieux Port watching the first colours of Autumn coming out.

Portrait of a tattooed girl

I liked the shadows light drew on the model's back enhancing the portrait with sensuality.

The Green Valley

This was how it looked like the valley next to Benasque, in Spanish Pyrenees, few months ago. Looking forward to see and photograph it with snow...

Smoking Kills

I was after a very grainy look with this one, so I pushed the development of the Kodak Tmaxx 400 far more than normal.

The Green Bridge

This picture was taken some time ago: I was testing the C-41 processing with Kodak Portra and Fuji Superia X-tra. I still love the way the sun, hidden behind the bridge, brightens the green fence up.

Bathroom stories in black and white

I wanted a kind of dirty look for this one, so I went for low contrast, big aperture and pushing the film while developing to get more grain from the Tmaxx 400.

The colours of Autumn in Montreal

I was walking around Montreal the other day, a rainy one. All of the sudden the sun managed to come out for a brief moment lighting the trees across the street. I didn't hesitate and took a pic with my iPhone. Sometimes the camera isn't really important: it's all about light.

TheKiss. A tribute to Love in Black and White film

Definitely my favourite pic of this shooting because of the contrast, the pose, what the models express and, of course, the theme...

The Lady and Her Self

The idea behind this  fashion shooting for Umbigo Magazine was the one of the duality of the character. The reflection in the windowpane was an unexpected opportunity we could not miss, so we lit accordingly.

Portrait of a wedding in Barcelona

Wedding photography is probably one of the most difficult kind of photography, not only for the long working day itself but also for the complexity of making a valuable social reportage out of it. Staying creative and trying different PoVs is the key.

Where The Land Ends

With this pic I am starting a new project: a look into the suburbs, the forgotten places away from the middle class eyes, the uncommon beauty of the different,  the land of the South, the land of where the land ends. Hope you like it!

Medium Format Fashion Photography

One more pic from the fashion shooting for Umbigo Magazine shot on Kodal Portra.

Live messy! A black and white film portrait.

Boudoir. A colour film contrasty portrait of a girl.

When I thought of this photograph I imagined it full of contrast: the outfit of the model with the place where she is, her attitude and posing, the gun, the orange tone of the skin with the bluish tone of the background...  It was taken on Kodak Portra 400 and home processed with C-41

Sunrise at the Aneto Mountain, Pyrenees

The sunrise in the mountain can produce spectacular lighting, like the view of the Peek next to Aneto mountain, in Pyrenees, lit by the rising sun, while everything else is still in shadows. The picture was taken on Kodak TMaxx 400

A summer Holiday Postcard

With this pic of Ipanema beach in Rio de Janeiro I want to wish you all a nice and relaxing summer Holiday. Charge your batteries to be ready for the surprises and challenges next months will offer us!

Fashion shooting on film

One more pic from the editorial published in Umbigo Magazine. I used a MF camera and my favourite film, Kodak Portra 400 processed at home with C-41.

Landscape photography. A tent with a view in Spanish Pyrenees

One of the best thing to camp in the mountain is the stunning view you have when you wake up and get out from the tent, just when the sun is rising trough the peaks. It was hard climbing up to the Ibones de Villamuerta with an heavy MF camera and tripod, but definitely worth it.

Haute Couture fashion shooting in Barcelona

This is one of my favourite photo from the fashion shooting we did in Barcelona that was recently published in Portugal. It was taken on Kodak film and Medium Format camera and it was home developed with C-41 processing. You can see the full shooting and the complete credits on Umbigo Magazine

Picasso's The Guitar Player in Rio de Janeiro

I don't normally make this kind of photography: I'm more into controlled-light-and-situation photography like portrait, fashion or landscape. But I was walking in Lapa, a Rio de Janeiro district, when I sow this man taking a rest in the shadow: the position of his head and shoulder reminded me of the painting by Picasso titled The Guitar Player. I couldn't help it: I took my camera and shot.

Are you talking to me?

I like the challenging pose we worked out with Cris for this session, In order to enhance the concept of the pose I broke some rules: I positioned her in the middle of the frame, positioned her up in the frame, cutting her head and exposing "incorrectly" blowing a bit the highlights in some area of the image. I think that the portrait wouldn't have worked otherwise.

Cliffs of Moher in black and white

The Cliffs of Moher are located in the south-western edge of the Burren region, county Claire, Ireland. It was a cold, rainy and foggy morning, something quite usual in the green island, when I got there. I used a 80mm on a MF camera so I had to jump the fence and get as close as possible to the edge to frame the shot I wanted. To get rid of the fog I used a Y8 filter, which darkened the sea too.

The Masked Girl

The masked girl was immortalized on Kodak Portra 400 with C-41 home processing

Do You wanna fight? A black and white boxing gloves advert

Kodak Tmaxx 400 was used for this boxing gloves advert. This is one of my favourite work with Isa, a great model. Would you fight her? I recommend you not...

Medium format film fashion shooting in Barcelona

Here's one of the photos of the fashion shooting we did last month in Barcelona. Model is Laura from Francine models, Dress from Valentina Bcn, Jewellery by Luz Vargas. The art direction is by Gemma Malé and MUA and hair stylist by Lucía Hernandez. Once again I used Kodak Portra 400 home processed with C-41. You can see the making of video here.

Storm approaching at Ladies View

Ladies view is a spot on the Ring of Kerry next to Killarney, Ireland. It is named after the admiration Queen Victoria's ladies in waiting expressed while visiting the place in 1861. I was lucky enough to stop at this place at a very cloudy day which makes the photo more dramatic.

I Love You but I've chosen Darkness. A photographic project.

I love portrait photography, it's unbelievable the connection you get to establish with people trough this kind of photography. This picture belongs to a series I'm still working on, called I Love You but I've Chosen Darkness by which I try to photograph and reproduce by lighting that "something broken" people sometimes carry inside.

An old cart in a stone stable.

The repetitive pattern of the stones, the circular form of the wheels and the arches, the light bursting out from the little window creating a gradient with shadows looking like a natural vignette... And the subject: that old cart resting in the unused stone stable after years of service. What would have it carried? and where? It was just perfect. I was in the right place at the right time: minutes after I took the photo that light was gone, leaving the stable in almost total darkness and the cart visually silent.

The other Ireland. Abandoned gas station.

I love abandoned places. They are full of untold stories and waiting for a camera to immortalize them before disappearing for ever. Like this old gas station on the road to Bushmills, Northern Ireland. I waited the all day in order to get a decent light. After self developing the film with the C41 process and seeing the result, I could see that the wait was well worth it.

Brave sea at Giant's Causeway.

The Giant's Causeway is a coastal area made of basalt columns which resulted after an ancient volcanic explosion. It is placed in county Antrim, Northern Ireland, and, according to the legend, the columns are the remains of a causeway built by a giant. The dark tone of the stones and the foamy sea made it perfect for a contrasty black a white photo. Getting soaked was worth it!

Catastrophe and the Cure. Black and white film portrait.

As soon as I saw this bridge for the first time, I "saw" this photo: I liked the contrast between the fence and a white dress. Few days later, on a cold autumn morning, Karmen helped me to make it. It was the first photo of a project I am still working on,  a series of portraits of women which I called Catastrophe and the Cure. Do You want to be part of it?

Iconic Bcn Fashion Shooting and "making of" photos

Iconic Bcn Fashion Shooting and "making of" photos
Here's some photos of the recently published fashion shooting we did in the countryside for Iconic Bcn. I wrote an "How I shot it" post with a light diagram of the image on the right,  you can read it here.

Make up and light metering were crucial for this shooting because the camera used was an analogue one and the images didn't go through Photoshop.

The other Ireland. Boats in Castle Cave.

The Ring of Kerry, Ireland, is full of beautiful places. But, if You leave the main road (and jump some fences..) You can find another Ireland, a different and hidden one, probably less idyllic but not for this less spectacular,  like these two boats waiting for the high tide in Castle Cave.
